Uncertain Multi-Criteria Optimization Problems
About This Book
Many practical search and optimization tasks involve several objectives at once, and gains on one objective often come at the expense of another. As a result, the candidate solutions form a set of compromises rather than a single best answer. Symmetry, asymmetry and anti-symmetry are the basic properties of binary relations used to model such problems, and symmetry also recurs in the literature on uncertainty theory applied to multi-criteria settings. Decision-making theory has been studied intensively in recent decades because it is applied across many fields. It is a major route to real-time answers for problems marked by uncertainty, and the factors that multidisciplinary research must weigh are central to the long-term sustainability of human development and activity. Existing approaches to uncertainty include probability theory, fuzzy set theory, type-2 fuzzy sets, rough sets and uncertainty theory. The uncertain multi-criteria side of these problems, however, has not been examined in depth and remains largely open. The emphasis is on building mathematical models of real-life multi-criteria optimization problems within a range of uncertain frameworks.
