About this book
The book grew out of a pointed remark Bill Nye posted to BigThink.com the previous autumn. A heated public debate with Ken Ham, curator of the Creation Museum, pushed his effort to challenge creationism on scientific grounds into a nationwide movement within a few months. Here Nye builds on the arguments he first raised. He contends that the clash is less about religion against science than about what science actually is.
Nye walks readers through how evolutionary theory works and shows how it grows out of the scientific method, which depends on claims that can be tested and checked. From that foundation, he makes the case that evolution offers a well-supported account of how life began.
He presses the point that teaching creationism as a scientific alternative in the classroom does damage. In his view, the harm reaches children first and then the wider world they will inherit.
Bill Nye is a science educator best known for the television series Bill Nye the Science Guy.
