Undercover

Marshall Everett has spent years living a double life. As an undercover DEA agent, he infiltrated a powerful South American cartel and rose to become the trusted right hand of a ruthless drug lord. The mission cost him dearly, taking away everything and everyone he loved. Back in the United States, he is temporarily assigned to the Secret Service on the presidential detail, where a single act of heroism sends his life in a new direction.

Ariana Gregory, meanwhile, seems to have the future she wanted: a life in Manhattan and a prized job at an online fashion magazine. When her recently widowed father is named U.S. ambassador to Argentina, she reluctantly goes with him to Buenos Aires. There, an unthinkable act of violence shatters her world.

Almost a year later, Ariana arrives in Paris, still fragile and trying to recover, determined to leave the memories behind. Her path crosses with Marshall's, but she is being watched by dangerous people, and both of them may have to fight for their lives once again.

This novel by Danielle Steel follows two people marked by trauma and looks at what it takes to keep going afterward. It is a story of survival and resilience, and of two damaged people who may not have to face the aftermath alone.
