Undoctored

Undoctored is the follow-up to This Is Going to Hurt, the diary Adam Kay kept during his years as a junior doctor. That earlier book has been read by millions, translated into 37 languages, and adapted into a major BBC series. This time Kay moves away from the wards to examine his own life, looking at the years since he stopped practising medicine and at how medicine has shaped him from the start.

Having left the NHS frontline worn down in body and mind, Kay looks back on that period, pushes on into what came next, and returns to old wounds he had kept closed. Funny passages sit alongside sad and grim ones, and some of the material is humbling as well as shocking. The book is a personal portrait of one life, told by the author in his own voice.

Its author is a former junior doctor who became a well-known British writer, and readers who enjoyed his diary will find the same mix of humour and candour here, applied to his life as a whole.
