About this book
Kansas City, 1933. Frank Nash, a petty criminal caught by federal agents, is being brought back to town by train. FBI agent Reed Vetterli goes to Union Station to meet Nash and his uniformed escort, expecting no trouble. Charles Thompson, a reporter sent to the station to see what the fuss is about, expects none either.
Neither man knows that Nash's friend Vern Miller plans to break him out. Nash is no big-time player, but he has earned some loyalty. The clash that follows ends in a massacre, and nobody can say who fired first, or even who fired at all.
Rumor puts Pretty Boy Floyd at the scene, though no one knows for sure. J. Edgar Hoover does not much care either way. He wants Floyd in the electric chair. When Vetterli, Miller, and Thompson end up in the way of Hoover's idea of justice, they have little time to find cover.
