Mira Nair directed this film adaptation of Thackeray's novel, and this full-color pictorial moviebook is built around it, with more than 150 illustrations. Nair's earlier films include Monsoon Wedding and Salaam Bombay! Reese Witherspoon takes the lead role of Becky Sharp.

Becky starts out in the lower class with only her wits, cunning and sexuality to rely on. Around 1820 she sets out to climb through London high society, with her closest friend Amelia beside her. As the two heroines move through the showy and often hollow world of Regency society, they face both military and domestic conflicts, and fortunes are won and squandered along the way.

The book includes the complete screenplay by Julian Fellowes, an Oscar winner known for Gosford Park, together with a screenplay credit shared by Matthew Faulk and Mark Skeet, who also worked on NBC's Jason and the Argonauts. Passages from Thackeray's novel appear alongside the script.

Behind-the-scenes material includes interviews with the cast and crew, notes from director Mira Nair, and sidebars on the film's costumes, sets and production design.
