Velvet Devil

On the day she is meant to see herself in her wedding dress for the first time, the narrator turns expecting to find her groom waiting, but he is nowhere in sight. Instead, the man who turned her life upside down is standing there.

Six years earlier, she suffered through the most miserable blind date imaginable, with a man who ignored every refusal. A stranger stepped in to rescue her, then stayed to finish the evening with her. Though she found the whole situation absurd, the attraction between them was overwhelming. Their conversation flowed, the night ended in a restaurant restroom, and afterward she discovered she was pregnant. He vanished without a word.

She rebuilt her life and believed she had finally moved on. Now he has reappeared on her wedding day with claims that make no sense: her fiancé is not the man she thinks he is, he refuses to let the wedding go ahead, and he insists she should marry him instead.
