About this book
Winter has come and gone, but gloom still covers the land. Drake travels west in hopes of finding the legendary Oracle, which might return the memories he has lost. Along the way he runs into a hostile world edging toward war. Monarchs chase their own ambitions, rebel leaders dream of building a realm of their own, and secret cults wait in the shadows, ready to strike.
Mystics are a select few linked to a soul that rises from nature. They may have helped shape the planet Kyros, yet the sinister kingdoms of this world have no place for demigods. Drake searches for a path into Godwin's domain and tries to answer questions that seem impossible to solve. His past and purpose are blurred, and he struggles to piece together the scraps he knows. Golden-eyes, the pitiless figure behind Drake's suffering, and his followers in black robes, who draw Mystics into their anonymous ranks, add to the danger.
Losing his memories matters less to Drake than the possibility that Talia could come to harm. With no other family, the orphaned girl feels like a daughter to him, and he would go to any lengths to keep her safe. He has the help of Pyros, a Primal who is quick to anger, yet Drake grows more unsure that he can protect her. Threats come in many forms, and not all of them can be stopped with a blade.
Elsewhere, Allen finds a glimmer of hope in the Library of El Aria. Mentored by Virgil, he earns a place among the learned scholars and professors of Kyros. Caught up in changing relationships and the prospect of a new world waiting to be explored, he comes close to contentment while stuck on this side of the portal. Still, something is missing. The absence of his wife and daughter haunts him, and his longing to see them again pulls him deeper into the library, where he learns what the vast knowledge of El Aria truly costs. Torn between reuniting with his family and holding on to his principles, Allen must face an impossible choice alone.
