Warlord
About This Book
Ben Colt is a Green Beret whose career has been shaped more by bad luck than by choice. Each time honor in combat seems within his reach, it is pulled away, so he keeps rising from every setback and waiting for the moment that will finally mean something. Just as that moment comes into view, fate intervenes once more. Aliens are real, and the gifts they have brought are quietly pushing humanity back toward a primitive age. Colt and his team turn the visitors' own technology against them and are hurled across space to a foreign planet that feels like the fading world of a dream. There they face savage alien opponents and treacherous human rivals while moving through the ruins of a civilization that was once magnificent and is now slipping out of the galaxy's memory and back into dust. The story is packed with military action: flying vehicles, energy weapons, four-armed giants, eight-legged mounted troops, miniguns and 40mm grenades. At its heart is a captive princess whose world needs a champion, and Colt, who needs her to help him become something more, a warlord.
