About this book
Lady Georgiana Rannoch, known as Georgie, is a new mother in this entry in Rhys Bowen's Royal Spyness Mystery series. The books follow a minor member of the royal family through 1930s Britain. This story opens in late 1936, when King Edward is in turmoil. He has fallen for Wallis Simpson, a twice-scandalous figure because she is both divorced and American. He wants to marry her but knows the marriage could cost him his crown.
The king confides in his close friend Darcy, who is Georgie's husband. Together the couple agree to shelter Wallis in their home while Edward decides what to do. Neither of them knows that Sir Hubert, who owns the estate, has allowed a film crew to shoot a movie about Henry the Eighth and Anne Boleyn on the grounds.
Hiding Mrs. Simpson while caring for a newborn is already a strain on the Rannochs. Then one of the film's stars is found murdered on set. Georgie has to work out who killed the actor, for the sake of king and country, before scandal engulfs everyone involved.
