About this book
Mona runs a store in Vermont, and the covered bridge beside it means a great deal to her. She cares about the region's past and the wild, country character of the state she calls home. When an ice storm brings the bridge down, her sense of loss is deep. Frank MacFarland, a part-time resident drawn to Mona, uses his knowledge of politics to help get the bridge rebuilt. Their efforts draw strong opposition, and the town grows divided, with a pending vote on same-sex marriage adding to the strain. Then Mona's abusive former husband unexpectedly turns up. The novel follows Frank and Mona's relationship, their attachment to the land around them, the fight for marriage equality, and Mona's struggle to leave her past behind.
