About this book
Wild Wisdom is a survival and wilderness skills guide from Donny Dust, a US Marine Corps veteran who owns and runs a survival and wilderness self-reliance school in Colorado. Over about twenty years he has built up primitive living skills in places ranging from the jungles of Asia to the mountains of North America. He has appeared on the History Channel's Alone and hosted Mud, Sweat & Beards on the USA Channel.
In this book he passes on what he has learned. He teaches readers to be more observant so they can avoid danger, solve problems, put finding shelter first and stay flexible and inventive when they lack the right supplies. The practical chapters cover essential gear, sheltering, building fire, staying hydrated, food, foraging and trapping. Illustrations throughout help explain the techniques.
Millions of people follow Dust on TikTok, where he makes objects using only what he finds in the wild, even creating his own tools from scratch, including saws, chisels, hammers and cordage. He has made bows, arrows, axes, rope, sandals, backpacks, bowls and swords, and a great deal of fire. The book goes well beyond those demonstrations.
It is meant both for experienced outdoor people who want to sharpen their skills and deepen their understanding of the wilderness, and for newcomers planning their first trips into nature.
