Wildfire Escape

When wildfire swept through the wooded hills near San Diego, California, residents had only minutes to leave their homes, taking whatever they could carry. As the blaze closed in, a woman named Nancy began loading her pets into her truck: dogs, cats and birds, all packed in together. Still, she could not get every one of her animals out alone.

A group of helpers comes to Nancy's aid, working to bring her four-legged and feathered companions to safety. The story is told in a graphic format, and the book then turns to real rescuers who have saved animals from wildfires.
