Wildful

Poppy's mother has not been herself since Gran died. She stays indoors, watching TV, and rarely finds the energy to get up from the couch. Perhaps that is why Poppy has begun spending more time outside, walking her dog Pepper around the neighborhood.

One day Pepper leads her through a hole in a fence, and Poppy discovers a forest that has been there all along, forgotten. There she meets a new friend named Rob, who shows her that the wilderness holds magic for anyone who knows how to look. Poppy looks, and then looks closer. She sees flowers open before her eyes, watches animals slip into their hidden homes, and listens to water droplets landing softly on puddles, leaves and feathers.

Poppy is eager to tell Mum everything she has seen and invites her to come along, but her mother can hardly manage to leave the couch. Can Poppy help her mother notice the beauty in the woods, and in life? Told as an illustrated graphic novel, this story explores grief, love, and the magic to be found in nature and within ourselves.
