Wind Child

Set in a Slavic-inspired world of moody deities and menacing creatures, this children's fantasy is at heart about friendship, and about how much a person might risk, and give up, to keep from losing someone they love.

The Slavic afterlife, Navia, is a place no mortal has ever returned from. Mara, twelve years old, is not wholly human, since she is the granddaughter of Stribog, the god of winter winds. Her wish is to restore her dead father to the living. She and her closest friend Torniv, who can take the form of a bear, set out on a long and dangerous quest that will pit them against the gods themselves.

Their path leads through forest lords, enchantresses who are also goddesses, and treacherous seas whipped by storms, and they must face the wicked Baba Latingorka along the way. Their defiance sets dangerous forces in motion in a world full of shadows, and Mara must rely on her cleverness to stay alive.
