About this book
Windhorse is a novel about Tibetans who take up arms against the Chinese occupation of their homeland. Their resistance puts them at odds with the Dalai Lama himself, who has told them not to fight. For these rebels, restoring their religion to its home means setting aside the very principles of that faith.
Lhasang grew up in Eastern Tibet and had to flee after the occupation, crossing the Himalayas with his family on a journey that nearly killed them. In the refugee camps of India he faces poverty and a gnawing frustration, and he finds a sense of purpose in the armed movement taking shape there.
Norbu comes from a wealthy Tibetan expatriate family. He befriends Dolma, a young college student, and spends time among the refugees newly arrived from Tibet. What he hears and sees pulls him toward the resistance as well.
