Witchward Bound

Butter is a cat who is quite sure he is meant for greatness. Owl is a raven who would not notice destiny if it hit her in the face. Both work as helpers to the same witch, and neither can stand the other.

Then the witch disappears. With their household suddenly missing its heart, the unlikely pair set out to find her. The road, which draws on the old stories of The Odyssey, takes them past sirens and cyclopes, gods and ghosts, and each encounter tests their wits and their patience with one another.

The real challenge may be getting along. To bring their family back together, a self-proclaimed hero and a very practical bird will have to figure out how to be a team, and what being a hero or a friend actually involves.

Witchward Bound is the first book in a new series from Erin Bow, a Newbery Honor-winning author. It is a funny, warm adventure for readers aged 8 to 12, with a gentle, whimsical tone that suits reading aloud and revisiting.
