Words We Keep

Lily's world changed on the night she found her older sister, Alice, hurting herself on the bathroom floor. Three months later, Lily is still doing everything she can to keep her family from falling apart, even as Alice prepares to come home from her treatment program. Lily is finding it harder to keep her own feelings at a distance.

Then Micah joins her school. He is new, he has a history of his own, and he was in treatment alongside Alice, so he understands her experience in a way few others can. He won't let Lily focus only on her sister. He presses her to face her own struggles too, including the compulsions and intrusive thoughts she has been hiding from everyone.

As Lily and Micah work on a school art project about finding poetry in unexpected places, Lily begins to see that the words she has been holding back are demanding to be heard.
