World Between Us

Alice is confined to her bed, but through Stream Cast she can still see the wider world. Other people's streams carry her through the streets of Tokyo and into a video game masterclass, all without her leaving her room. Her routine changes when she discovers Rowan, a new streamer who urges her to stop being a spectator and start taking charge of her own life.

Rowan is hiding a secret from Alice, and from himself as well. As the two of them build something bigger and more vivid together, the secrets each of them keeps begin to threaten what they have made.

Readers who enjoyed All the Bright Places or Five Feet Apart will recognise some of the same emotional territory, including illness, first love and how far someone will go for another person. The author, Sarah Ann Juckes, previously wrote Outside. The story ends by asking whether you would risk everything for love.
