Callie Parker grew up on her father's South Carolina plantation, surrounded by comfort and sheltered by the old oaks at Parker Manor. Now she is about to marry Wyn Archer, a member of a wealthy local family, but she wants the three friends who grew up with her there to share the day.

Bode Jessup, once a brother and a hero to Callie, has grown into a strikingly handsome man. Brie Canfield, the freckled playmate of those years, is now an FBI agent with a full life of her own. Sela Bronson, a shy girl who never quite fit in, returns to Parker Manor only to escape a miserable marriage.

As the four gather to revisit the years they spent together, they realize how little they actually knew about that past, and a woman's darkest secret threatens to tear them apart.
