Yuddhsthal

Yuddhsthal, which means battlefield, is a regional novel that stands apart from much of what is written in that vein. Its central figure is the daughter-in-law of Ramsharan, and the story follows the struggles she faces both in the world around her and within herself.

The author treats her character and state of mind as the real battleground. The conflict is not only with circumstances or people outside her. It also plays out in her thoughts and feelings, and the novel gives that double fight a wide canvas.

The telling is plain. The language is simple and the narration unhurried and direct, with no ornament, and this gives the book its own quality. The result is the story of a woman standing at the point where revolution begins, told in a way that draws the reader in.
