A Heart Unspoken

Saira sat on the balcony of her small apartment, staring at the twinkling city lights. To an outsider, her life seemed perfect—a stable career as an artist, supportive friends, and a charming smile that could light up any room. But beneath the facade lay a heart that had never truly known love’s warmth.
Saira often wondered if she was destined to be unlucky in love. It wasn’t as if she hadn’t tried; her life was dotted with fleeting connections, each one fading like a shooting star before it could fulfill her heart's wish. Every relationship began with hope but ended with an ache that felt sharper than the last.
Her first brush with love was in college. Ayaan was her best friend, the one who made her laugh until her sides hurt. They shared stolen moments in the library, endless conversations, and dreams of a future together. But just when Saira thought their friendship would blossom into something more, Ayaan met someone else. Saira smiled through the pain, convinced that love was just playing hard to get.
Years passed, and Saira moved to the city, her canvas becoming her solace. She met Arjun at an art exhibition. He was different—gentle, attentive, and captivated by her work. They shared late-night coffee dates and whispered promises under the stars. For the first time, Saira let herself believe in the magic of love. But Arjun’s ambitions took him abroad, leaving Saira with nothing but unanswered texts and a postcard that read, "I’ll miss you."
Each failed relationship chipped away at her hope. Friends reassured her that she was simply waiting for the right one, but Saira began to question if love was meant for her at all. The world was full of fairy tales, but her story seemed to be an endless loop of heartbreak.
One rainy evening, Saira found herself at a park, seeking inspiration for her next painting. She saw an elderly couple sitting on a bench, sharing an umbrella. They were laughing, their hands intertwined, their love undimmed by time. It was a poignant sight, and tears welled in Saira’s eyes.
Summoning her courage, she approached them. “How did you find love that lasts?” she asked, her voice trembling.
The old man smiled. “We didn’t find it, my dear. We built it. Love isn’t about luck; it’s about patience, understanding, and the courage to stay even when it gets tough.”
Those words stayed with Saira. That night, she painted with renewed vigor, pouring her emotions onto the canvas. For the first time, her art wasn’t about longing or heartbreak—it was about hope.
Months later, at her solo exhibition, Saira met Kabir. He wasn’t like anyone she had known—quiet yet confident, with an appreciation for the imperfections in her work. They bonded over their shared love for poetry and rain-soaked afternoons.
Saira wasn’t sure if Kabir was her forever, but she no longer believed in being unlucky in love. She realized that love wasn’t about avoiding heartbreak; it was about embracing vulnerability and taking a chance.
As the city lights dimmed that night, Saira smiled to herself. Her story wasn’t over; it was just beginning.
And maybe, just maybe, luck had nothing to do with it.
