My name is Ananya. I belong to a good family, but something happened to me that perhaps separates me from my family. Yes, I am not an ordinary girl; I am different from others. After hearing my story, you may also find me different from everyone else. So, let me tell you my painful story.
My story begins a year ago today, when I was going to a relative's wedding with my family. We were all very happy that day, but who knew that this happiness wouldn’t last long?
Flashback - One Year Ago, Morning
Ananya: Come on, hurry up, guys! What are you all doing? We’ll be late, you know. You’re still not ready. How much longer will it take?
Ananya’s Mother: Oh yes, dear, come on, my express train, it’s almost done.
Ananya’s Brother: Let’s go now.
Ananya: Yes, but where’s Dad?
Ananya’s Father: I’m here, just coming. Let’s go.
And so, they all left for the wedding. In the middle of the journey, their car broke down.
Ananya’s Mother: Oh no, what happened now?
Ananya’s Father: Honey, the car broke down.
Ananya: What? What do you mean? You know where we have to go, right? We have to go to the village, a remote village, where your friend’s daughter’s wedding is, and now our car is stuck here like this.
Ananya’s Father: Oh, my princess, I’m sorry, dear. Just wait a bit, I’ll see what happened. Okay?
Ananya: Okay, Dad, but please hurry a little so that this wedding is over, and then I can go back to my work. You know we corporate people don’t get leave easily. It was so difficult to get this leave, otherwise...
Ananya’s Father: Yes, dear, thank you for coming. My friend wants to meet you, and why not? After all, we both became fathers on the same day.
Ananya: Okay, Dad, I understand. You two are best friends forever, right?
Ananya’s Father: Yes, absolutely.
Suddenly, Ananya’s Mother: If this father-daughter discussion is over, please pay attention to the car too.
Ananya’s Father: Oops, sorry, honey.
Ananya’s Brother, Arav: That’s right. I mean, the whole family only pays attention to Di, and what about me? I’m a boy, so I don’t need any attention, right?
Arav said this, a little jealous and angry.
Ananya: Oh no, someone’s jealous, huh?
Arav: Oh, very funny.
Ananya’s Mother: Stop fighting, you two, sit quietly. And what are you doing? Is the car fixed?
Ananya’s Father: No, and there’s another problem. The car has a bigger issue. We’re stuck here.
Hearing this, everyone was shocked.
Ananya’s Mother: So, what do we do now?
Arav: What else? We’ll have to hitch a ride. Or we’ll have to stay in the jungle.
Ananya’s Mother: Shut up. You’re always joking.
Ananya’s Father: Wife, calm down. I know what Arav said was just a joke, but now try to understand, baby. We have another option. We have to take a lift. Please, baby, understand the situation, okay?
Ananya’s Mother: But how can we take a lift from strangers in an unknown place? You know how bad the environment is these days. And we are not alone; we have children with us, and a girl too.
Ananya’s Father: Honey, I understand, but please try to understand my situation. We don’t have any other options. Okay, we’ll only take a lift when everything feels right to you, okay?
Ananya’s Mother reluctantly said: Okay, but there’s a condition.
Ananya: Oh come on, Mom, don’t worry too much. If Dad is saying it, he’s thought it through.
And so, we all waited for a lift. Then a car stopped, and right behind it, another car arrived. Some men stepped out; they were young men. They seemed to be from a good family, but often, devils hide behind innocent faces, and they approached in a similar way. As soon as they came, one of the boys, who was about 25 years old, asked, “What happened, uncle? Is everything okay? Why are you all here in the middle of the road?”
Ananya’s Father: Yes, son, our car broke down, and we need to go to the village next door, which is after crossing this jungle, connected to the highway.
The boy said, “Oh, so you have to go to the village? Yes, yes, we’re here, we’ll drop you there. We’re going that way anyway. Come on.”
Ananya’s Mother: No, we...
Ananya’s Father interrupted: Oh no, I mean yes, absolutely, thank you very much, son. But we are a whole family, four of us, so how can we come?
The boy: Oh, uncle, what are you talking about? We have these two cars; you all will fit comfortably. Come on, don’t think too much now.
Ananya’s Father agreed, but when they looked at us, they understood we weren’t fully convinced. So, they came to us and said, “Look, I know it will be a little uncomfortable, but please understand the situation. There’s no other way. And anyway, we don’t have to go very far now; the village is just after crossing the jungle.”
Listening to them, we agreed and got into the two cars. Mom and I were in one car together, and Dad and Arav were in another. There were about four to six people in total; we all adjusted. At that moment, one of the men offered us water. He was different, about 27–28 years old, and said, “Here, take this water; you all must be tired.”
We hesitantly drank the water. After some time, we suddenly started feeling dizzy and began fainting. Even in my unconscious state, I tried to see with difficulty and noticed that the people who helped us were laughing at us. Instead of taking us out of the jungle, they were taking us deeper inside. When we all became completely unconscious, they left everyone else there and took me to an unknown place. What happened next was unbearable for anyone. Those people took advantage of my unconscious state and gang-raped me. At that time, I was not conscious, but the next day, when I regained consciousness, I found myself tied up in a room. I tried very hard to free myself and was attempting to escape when I overheard them talking.
One of them said, “Man, whatever, but it was fun. I mean, we hadn’t hunted new prey for a long time. Now that we did, it was just satisfying.”
Another man: “Yes, man, and how we fooled them. They were such big fools to fall for our words.”
A third man: “Yes, and that girl was amazing too. I mean, her innocent face, fair complexion—man, she was a blast.”
The fourth man: “So, what have you decided to do now? What if her family finds her?”
The fifth man: “What? First, we’ll have our fill with the girl and then kill her, like we did with the others. What else?”
They all started laughing and talking while drinking. Then a sixth man said, “Okay, you guys wait, I’ll go see the girl.”
The first man: “Are you going to see her or to quench your fire? Anyway, go, see if she’s awake, and we have to see her too.” They all started laughing loudly, like demons.
I became even more alert after hearing their words and tried to run away, but a man caught me and said, “Hey, this golden bird has woken up. She was listening to our conversation.” I got very scared after hearing his words, pushed him away, and ran, but for how long? They were all behind me, and despite my efforts, they caught me. I was screaming in front of them, begging, sometimes pleading, “Please let me go, I won’t tell anyone anything, please.”
They all laughed and said, “No, queen, once we like something, we don’t let it go. You can’t go now, understand?” He said this while grabbing my throat, and then, pulling me by my hair, they took me back to the same place. Despite my many refusals, none of them took pity on me, and they took turns forcing themselves on me. They tore me apart like a kite; sometimes someone tortured me, sometimes someone vented all their frustration, sometimes someone burned me with a cigarette, sometimes someone hit me with a belt.
From that day on, every day, whoever wanted to forced themselves on me. There was no one to hear my screams, no one to understand my pain. They also gave me drugs so I wouldn’t fight much. They didn’t even give me clothes to wear; they just kept playing with my body. A month had passed like this. I was in that hell, and on the other side, my family was in a terrible state. They tried very hard to find me. Dad had a heart attack and was in the hospital; Mom was also stressed and being treated, but Arav was still looking for me. None of them knew I was here, and even after so much, I was just alive in the hope that one day I would be able to go home. But when would that day come? Would I be alive until then? I was thinking this when a man came, and he was drunk. He closed the door as soon as he arrived and started moving toward me. I was scared and said, “N…n…no, p…please no, l…let me g…go.”
Ananya said this nervously, and the man replied with a devilish grin, “Why, baby girl, why should I let you go, huh? Is this the first time? No, right? Then…” Saying this, he came on top of me, forcibly kissing me and undressing himself. I was disgusted by all this. Despite my best efforts, I lost, and he once again succeeded in tearing my dignity apart.
But then, after a while, when he fell asleep, exhausted, and I was awake, I waited for a moment because my legs were hurting due to the rough intimacy. Then I gathered courage, got up, took advantage of the opportunity, and ran away. They were all drunk, and taking advantage of this, I escaped. I didn’t know the way, but I just kept running.
I didn’t know the way, but I kept running. Luckily, fate was on my side that time, and I reached the road. Then I saw a car approaching and asked for a lift. Just then, I heard some people behind me. I turned around and saw they were following me. I quickly ran toward the car and asked for help. Luckily, they were good people and helped me. I didn’t tell them why those men were chasing me because I thought it might put them in danger. They understood and didn’t force me to explain. They dropped me off where I asked. Then they took me home and said, “Look, we know you’re in trouble, but running away won’t solve anything. Tell us, and we’ll help you. We’re police officers.”
I was about to say something when the door opened, and Arav came out and said, “Didi, how did you get here? Are you okay?” I was happy to see Arav, and we hugged each other, crying with a mix of joy and emotion. Then Arav noticed the people with me. He looked at them and said, “Sir, where did you find Didi, and how?” The couple said, “What do you mean? This is your sister, isn’t she?” Arav said, “Yes, sir, she is my sister. I filed a missing person report for her, and you were assigned to her case. I saw your photo at the police station when they were assigning you.” The couple said, “Oh, so that’s what happened.”
Just then, I heard the sound of the car I had been hearing for the past month. I panicked and said, “Let’s go, let’s go quickly. They’re… they’re coming. Let’s go!” I pulled them inside and hid, trembling. Then Arav came and put his hand on my shoulder. I flinched, and Arav softly comforted me, saying, “Shh, Didi, don’t be afraid. I’m here, and I won’t let anything happen to you, okay? Just tell me what happened. Are these the same men? I won’t spare them. And the police are here too. Don’t be afraid. Be brave one more time. I know you’re strong, right? How can you give up like this?” His words calmed me down, and I hugged him, telling him that those men had been raping me for the past month. Hearing this, Arav was furious. The veins in his hands bulged, and his eyes turned red with anger. He controlled himself because I was there and said, “Didi, just stay here, I’ll be right back, okay? Sir, don’t worry, hmm.”
Then he went to the police couple. Meanwhile, the men were searching for me, going from house to house, and they came to my house. They didn’t know it was my house, so they knocked. When they saw Arav, they were shocked and tried to run away, but Arav caught one of them and started beating him. Arav was fighting two men at once because one of them tried to help. The police shot the other two in the legs and arrested them. But two of them were still very strong. Everything was going well; Arav was fighting and winning, but then one of them shot Arav from behind, and another attacked the police. I was terrified, but I pulled myself together. Seeing Arav like that, I was filled with rage. I don’t know why, but suddenly, all my fear vanished, and I felt a surge of strength. I walked toward them, and they were holding guns. I saw a gun, took it, and walked toward them. I shot two of them, then went to the other two and didn’t shoot them but confronted them. They were terrified and begged for mercy. I replied, “Why should I show you mercy? Did you show me mercy? Did you let me go? No, so why should I? When you were tearing me apart yesterday, you didn’t feel any pain, but now that death is staring you in the face, you’re scared? You were born from a woman, from her womb, and this is how you treat women? People like you don’t deserve to live. And not only that, but you also tried to kill my brother. I won’t forgive you!” I shouted in anger and didn’t shoot them. Instead, I grabbed a sword that was in my house and killed them with it. I beheaded them, and some blood splattered on my face. Seeing this, the remaining two men were terrified, and before I could approach them, they shot themselves.
Then I ran to Arav to check on him. He was okay. He had been shot, but the wound wasn’t deep; the bullet had just grazed him. The police took the bodies and reported the incident as self-defense. I took Arav to the doctor, got his wound bandaged, and brought him home. Then I asked Arav, “Arav, where are Mom and Dad?” Arav said, “Didi, they’re in the hospital. They went into shock after that day and have been there ever since. But now that you’re here, they’ll be fine.”
I panicked and said, “Then we need to go to the hospital right away. They need us.” Arav said, “Didi, don’t worry, we’ll both go to the hospital, okay?” After a while, Ananya and Arav were at the hospital, visiting their parents. Their condition was critical. I was very scared, but then I saw Dad’s hand move, and Mom, who hadn’t spoken for a month, smiled at me. Arav called the doctor, and the doctor examined them. After that, we felt a surge of hope. The doctor said, “Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs., they’re both showing significant improvement. They should recover soon. It’s probably the result of your prayers. Spend some time with them; I’ll be back.”
Two weeks later, we brought Mom and Dad home. They had improved significantly. We started to forget those terrible days and began living a new life. But the fear is still alive within us. Even thinking about it makes us shudder. But we’re trying to live a new life.
