The first strange thing happened on a Tuesday morning when every clock in twelve-year-old Navonil Debnath's classroom stopped at exactly 10:17.

Not just the classroom clock.

Every watch.

Every phone.

Even the digital timer in the science laboratory froze.

Only for seven seconds.

One evening, while studying images from a public space observatory, Navonil noticed something impossible.

A tiny blue planet had appeared where empty space had existed the previous night.

No telescope had ever recorded it before.

The planet wasn't orbiting any star.

It was drifting alone through the darkness.

At exactly 10:17 p.m., his computer screen flickered.

It descended toward Earth.

Taking a deep breath, he stepped inside.

The spacecraft was surprisingly empty except for a circular table floating in the air. Around it sat three beings whose skin shimmered like moonlight.

"We are the Archivists," one of them said. "Our home is Planet Mnemos."

"Why me?" Navonil asked.

"Because you noticed what the rest of your world ignored."

The Archivists explained that Mnemos was unlike any other planet.

Instead of remembering the past, it remembered the future.

Its oceans reflected events that had not yet happened.

Its forests whispered discoveries still waiting to be made.

Its mountains stored possibilities instead of fossils.

For millions of years, the planet had quietly protected humanity by preventing disastrous futures from becoming reality.

But something had gone terribly wrong.

"The Future Archive is disappearing," another Archivist said.

"If it collapses," the first continued, "every possible future except one will vanish forever."

"What happens then?" Navonil whispered.

The spacecraft crossed millions of kilometres in moments.

Soon, Planet Mnemos filled the window.

It looked breathtaking.

Rivers flowed upward into the clouds.

Yet despite its beauty, something felt terribly wrong.

Huge sections of the planet had turned grey.

Entire forests stood frozen.

The rivers had stopped flowing.

At the centre of the planet floated a gigantic crystal sphere covered with spreading cracks.

"The Future Archive," said the Archivist quietly.

"And it is dying."

Navonil stared at the cracked Future Archive as faint streams of silver light leaked from its surface and disappeared into space.

"What are those lights?" he asked.

"They are possible futures," replied the oldest Archivist. "Every time the Archive cracks, millions of possibilities are lost forever."

Navonil stepped closer. Inside the crystal he saw countless visions—children discovering new planets, doctors curing unknown diseases, artists painting breathtaking masterpieces, and scientists creating inventions that could protect Earth. One by one, the visions faded into darkness.

"There must be a way to repair it," he said.

"There is," the Archivist answered sadly. "But no one has ever succeeded."

The only clue lay inside the Maze of Decisions, a place where every path represented a choice someone could make. A wrong decision would trap a traveler inside endless possibilities.

Navonil entered the maze alone.

The first path offered fame without effort.

The second promised unlimited knowledge without curiosity.

The third offered success without helping anyone else.

Each road looked inviting, yet something felt incomplete.

Remembering what his parents and teachers had always taught him, Navonil ignored the easy choices and searched for a path that allowed learning, kindness, and perseverance to exist together.

The maze suddenly began glowing.

"You have chosen growth over shortcuts," a gentle voice echoed.

A crystal key appeared in his hands.

When Navonil reached the center of the maze, he found not a machine but a mirror. Instead of showing his reflection, it revealed thousands of possible versions of himself—an astronaut, an inventor, a writer, a teacher, and even an ordinary man living a peaceful life.

Confused, he asked, "Which future is the correct one?"

"All of them," answered the mirror. "The future is not something you discover. It is something you create."

At that moment, Navonil understood.

The Archive was breaking because intelligent civilizations had begun believing that the future was fixed instead of shaped by their choices. As imagination faded, so did possibilities.

He hurried back to the crystal sphere and inserted the key.

Nothing happened.

Then he placed his notebook beside it—the notebook filled with ideas, questions, dreams, sketches of spacecraft, and plans for inventions he hoped to build someday.

The pages began to glow.

Across Planet Mnemos, frozen rivers flowed again. Grey forests burst into vibrant colors. The cracks in the Future Archive slowly sealed themselves as billions of new possibilities appeared like sparkling stars.

The Archivists smiled.

"You have reminded the universe of its greatest truth," one of them said.

"What truth?" Navonil asked.

"That tomorrow is never written by destiny alone. It is written by every curious question, every brave decision, and every act of kindness."

The spacecraft returned him to Earth just before sunrise.

Everything seemed ordinary again.

Only seven seconds had passed.

No one noticed anything unusual except Navonil.

That evening, he looked through his telescope.

Far beyond the familiar stars, one tiny blue planet shimmered brightly before fading into the darkness.

He smiled, opened his notebook, and wrote his next impossible question.
