About this book
Detective Geraldine Steel is getting to know her new sergeant when two young Black women turn up dead within days of each other in North London. Officers worry about how the local Black community will respond, and they are baffled to find that both victims had teeth pulled after their deaths. One of the women worked at a massage parlour, and attention turns to one of her clients, a man with a documented history of racism. The investigation leads Geraldine to the affluent boutiques of Bond Street in Central London, but the killer remains one step ahead, roaming the city in search of his next target.
As the death toll climbs, Geraldine has no spare time to pursue the search for her birth mother. Newspapers have dubbed the perpetrator "The Dentist," and she races to track him down. Meanwhile, he has befriended a young gay man who goes home with him by accident, and he takes another young woman back to the attic where he holds his captives in chains and shows off what he calls his "collection." When Geraldine finally uncovers that macabre display, she realises the killer has marked her as his next victim.
