Flying Solo

Laurie Sassalyn is about to turn forty and still stinging from the end of a long engagement when she goes back to her small hometown in Maine. She has come to settle the estate of her great-aunt, a spirited adventurer who lived to be ninety. Among the boxes of Polaroids and pottery, a mysterious wooden duck turns up at the bottom of a cedar chest, then disappears again.

Laurie is told the duck has no financial value. Even so, she cannot let go of the questions of why it was there and where it went. Her pursuit becomes a caper that leads her to antique dealers, con artists, and an unexpected date in a library after hours.

The search also reunites her with her oldest friend and her first love. It pushes her to lean on a team of allies while still holding on to her own idea of what it means to fly solo.

Flying Solo is a warm, charming novel by Linda Holmes, the author of Evvie Drake Starts Over.
